Whether you want a townhouse to live in, to subdivide your land or for investment, townhouses are a lot more cost efficient to build compared to a house. Townhouses utilise land more efficiently compared to a typical house which means the cost of building a townhouse is cheaper than building a house. More importantly, it offers a low-maintenance, lock-up-and-leave lifestyle, which can be fitting for both growing families and tenants.
As trusted townhouse builders, Cameron Construction strives to provide affordable and functional townhouses while maintaining the highest standards of quality and consistency.
Townhouse developments in Melbourne can be more affordable than other types of housing. Compared to apartments or other smaller dwellings, you can earn more per townhouse along with your ideal square footage.
Townhouses are able to give residents more privacy than apartments when it comes to multiple occupancy residency. They get to live in smaller clusters compared to apartment buildings, with separate entrance points to each house and less shared space, generally just the driveway. Therefore, this is an attractive feature of townhouses for many people who may not have the budget to invest in an entire home or property.
Townhouses provide great customisation opportunities for your home. With other multiple-occupancy settings like apartments, your options for variety are restricted. With townhouses, you can potentially enjoy a bigger living space within a smaller land area.
Maintenance costs for townhouses tend to be lower due to smaller gardens and reduced energy consumption. Additionally, a high-quality townhouse builder would mean that maintenance and repair work for the house will be less in the long run.
This is a great way of experiencing a sense of community while ensuring you can maintain your privacy. Other multiple-occupancy dwellings rarely offer this to families.

We use only the best materials when building your new townhouse. The selection of materials was crucial in creating a successful relationship between the original cottage and the new home. The double-storey attic style home has a rendered masonry ground floor and lightweight cladding to the upper floor, which suggests the traditional weatherboard farm buildings found in the area. The Colorbond corrugated steel roofing and stone base of the veranda provides further hints to the original form and textures of the cottage.
As an accomplished Melbourne townhouse builder, Cameron Construction built this contemporary double storey home to suit a modern lifestyle with features such as:
The new townhouse is located in the green wedge shire of Nillumbik, on a sensitive site at the gateway to Eltham. Eltham is a suburb on the northern outskirts of Melbourne that is renowned for its rural ambience. The site is home to Wingrove Cottage, the oldest intact house in Eltham, dating back to 1856 and once used as the first Eltham shire office. The property was also a home to the Wingrove family, comprising ten children.
The design of the townhouse needed to complement the brick cottage with a slate gable roof and corrugated iron return verandah. The remnants of the original garden were also to be preserved, including the small brick footbridge spanning a landscaped drainage channel running past the cottage.
Lightweight Materials Used
Scyon Linea was the obvious choice in order to achieve the best aesthetics for the project, as well as long-term durability and energy efficiency. The cladding forms part of the lightweight wall structure and contributes to the six-star rating of the house, offering residents lower heating and cooling costs over the life of the building.
In addition, the low energy output involved in the manufacture, transport and assembly of the cladding was environmentally friendly, making it a smart choice all round.
The house was constructed on a sloping site among mature gum trees, which required protection during the construction period, to ensure their long-term survival.
The lightweight design of the first floor reduced the construction period, thus reducing the stress on the site and construction costs.
Scyon Linea cladding will continue to offer energy savings for the life of the building.
The stability of the material minimises shrinking and cracking that commonly occur in traditional weatherboard cladding, and therefore the house will require repainting less frequently.
The use of lightweight construction at first floor level also reduced the requirement for scaffolding, resulting in a saving of time and cost in the construction period.
The townhouse is set at the rear of the site behind the security gates along the prestigious entrance known as ‘The Avenue’ – a tree-lined road with brush box fencing. This property allows even the most fastidious buyer to enjoy luxury living in a peaceful setting well away from the traffic of main roads.
It was designed with a north facing living area and ground floor concrete slab, opening onto a private garden, to maximise passive solar gain and reduce reliance on heating and cooling systems.
Scyon Linea allowed the draftsman to create a contemporary design in an environmentally and historically sensitive area. The design responded to the rural landscape and the heritage beauty of Wingrove Cottage. The client now enjoys a new standard of living created by town house builder Cameron Construction.
